The Calculators Produce Estimates

Every tool on MetalReal models a well-defined relationship using standard formulas rather than the certified behaviour of your specific material or process:

• The weight and cost tools use volume times a nominal density. Real alloys vary by grade and heat, and mill tolerances add or remove material, so treat the weight as close but not exact.
• The gauge converter uses standard gauge tables, which differ by material (steel, galvanized, stainless, aluminium) and between standards. Always confirm actual thickness with a caliper or micrometer before machining or bending.
• The bend-allowance tool uses a K-factor model. The right K-factor depends on your material, tooling, and radius, so dial it in with test bends on your own press brake.
• The cut-list tool assumes a constant kerf and square cuts; real yield drops with blade wander, clamping, and end trim.
• The welding-filler toolestimates deposited weight from a joint’s cross-section and a typical deposition or efficiency figure. Actual rod and wire use varies widely with technique, position, and spatter, so treat it as a planning ballpark.

Nothing on MetalReal guarantees the exact weight, thickness, blank size, cost, yield, or filler quantity you’ll get in the shop. Those outcomes depend on your material, tooling, machines, and skill. Use the tools to plan and build intuition, then confirm anything that matters:

• Check actual stock thickness and dimensions with a caliper before cutting or bending.
• Prove out bend allowances and K-factors with scrap on your own brake.
• Weigh finished parts and track real consumable use to calibrate your estimates.
